Heart of the City
Inspired by my time spent in New York City, particularly Central Park, Heart of the City captures the harmony of natural elegance and city modernity. Creating the 3D geometric dress bottom took an architectural approach, as if building a high-rise. Experimenting with unconventional materials, I marked darts, used paper to number each geometric triangle, cut out foam boards, and wrapped each individual piece with three silver fabrics similar to the reflective exterior of city buildings. The corset top is made of sage green silk satin fabric inspired by the oak trees in Central Park. I draped the pattern of 8 panels, sewed in the boning, and enclosed it with zippers. At the center of the corset is an iridescent mint blue organza sash embellishment hand-draped and pick-stitched on. This embellishment not only represents the waterfalls at the park but also visually connects the classic corset top with the futuristic bottom, perfectly encapsulating the heart of the city.
